Science and Technology
Science and technology covers research, development and innovation. Starting in 2014, Statistics Iceland annually collects data, on research and development in the following sectors: business enterprise, higher education, government and private non-profit, every other year; and on innovation in the business enterprise sector, every other year. Both actions are modelled on international methodologies, which makes the data comparable between countries. The results on Iceland are also featured in publications of Eurostat and the OECD. General usage of information technology and the Internet is established through annual data collection, from a sample of individuals via telephone interviews, and from a sample of enterprises via web-based surveys and telephone interviews. The data collection takes place in April, and the questions of the surveys refer either to the first three months, or the whole year, before. The surveys are standardised for all countries within the EEA.
