Over the period from May 2007 to April 2008, the total number of trips that were taken by residents of Iceland aged 16 to 74 amounted to 1.2 million trips within the country, and approximately 400 thousand trips overseas. However, the total number of nights spent on trips abroad was similar to the total number of nights spent on domestic trips, as the average number of nights per trip was 9 nights in the case of outbound trips and 3 nights in the case of domestic trips.
