The Icelandic consumer price index (CPI) rose by 8.3% from April 2009 to April 2010. At the same time the CPI excluding housing rose by 11.3%. Iceland is highly dependent on imports of consumer goods; almost 40% of the index’s total weight consists of such goods. Prices of imported goods rose by 14.8% (effect on the index 5.37%) in between April 2009 and April 2010. Thereof imported food prices increased by 9.9% (0.36%) and of new cars and spare parts by 14.7% (0.50%).
