The Icelandic consumer price index (CPI) rose by 5.3% from April 2006 to April 2007. The inflation has decreased the last two months, mainly because of lowering of the VAT rate for food and non-alcoholic beverages on 1 March. The CPI is rebased in April every year. At the same time the CPI excluding housing rose by 3.2%.
