Total catch of Icelandic vessels in 2003 was around 1,980 thousand tonnes. This year is one of Iceland's best years of fishing even though there was some contraction from the previous year due to a less catch of capelin. Total catch value declined even more than the total catch in 2003, which can be explained by a depreciation of the ISK as well as some decline in product prices.
