There has been fluctuations in the number of registered vehicles from the year 2000. Number of passenger vehicles has increased steadily, but decreased by 6% after the financial crisis in 2008 and dipped also a bit in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. About one of every five passenger vehicles are electrically powered or plug-in-hybrid.
The number of lorries both over and under 12 tonnes gross weight decreased by 24% from 2007 to 2012 and did not reach the same number as before until 2019. The number of registered buses decreased a bit after 2008 but has increased steadily since, although in the lighter category (under 5 tonnes gross weight) the numbers have decreased steadily since 2017. Large amount of buses were taken out of registry in 2020 or 58%.
